Trivention: Stoke vs Altrincham @ Crewe - May 2012

Seven members of AVS represented the club at the Trivention against Stoke Cine and Video Society held on 1st May 2012 at the Crewe Cine and Video club.
The idea of a Trivention is to bring the members of three clubs together in a friendly competition in which the host club
(in this instance Crewe) adjudicates over the programs of videos put forward by the two competing clubs.
Prizes are awarded to the club judged to have presented the best program and to the best film of the other club - so that both clubs actually come away with a prize.
Regrettably on the night Stoke were judged to have presented the best program but as a consolation Meet the Cousins and At the Beach were judged as the joint best videos from the Altrincham program.
A pleasant evening was had by all and the large Danish pastries served up by the hosts were especially popular!

Interview In Progress - April 2012

We had an interactive workshop session on How to Shoot an Interview led by Mike Wood, our guest speaker.
Mike is an experienced lighting cameraman working for the BBC and other major broadcasters.
Michelle Cashin kindly agreed to be interviewed by our own very distinguished presenter Kevin, on the subject of John and Michelle's tuition business.
Mike started the workshop by describing the setting up of the camera, lights and mics to achieve the best platform for the interview, before moving on to the recording of the actual interview.

North vs South Winner Announced - January 2012

The final of last years North vs South competition took place today (Sunday 29th) in our club room.
There was a pretty good turnout to see the top 5 films submitted by both the North and South from their individual heats held back in November.
The films shown were;

  • The Au Pair - Nuneaton Movie Makers
  • Pre-Demise Assessment
  • On The Map - Gosport and Fareham Camcorder Club
  • Keeping Some For the Kids - Newcastle ACA Film and Video Makers
  • Fleece to Coat - Sutton Coldfield Movie Makers
  • Rocket Man - Coast Video Club
  • Open Doors - Rochdale Moviemakers
  • Not His Type - Surrey Border Film & Video Makers
  • Free - Rochdale Moviemakers
  • Who Do You Love? - Leicester Movie Makers

  • The runner up, and receiving the newly created Harry Adams trophy, was Rochdale with their film "Open Doors".

    The winners, and receiving the John Wright trophy, for the second year were Rochdale with their film "Free".

    3rd place went to Leicester Movie Makers, 4th to Coast Video Club and 5th to Gosport & Fareham.

    Interestingly the audience vote went to Rochdale with their film "Free" but they didn't give any votes to "Open Doors". The rest of the audience vote went as follows;
    2nd - Who do You Love
    Joint 3rd - Building a Website (which was put in as an additional item), Fleece to Coat and Rocket Man
    6th - Pre Demise Assessment
    7th - Keeping Some for the Kids.

    The theme for this year has been set as "No Way Back!" so get your thinking caps on to decide what we are going to do!
